In answer to a query about why I use the spelling "McCutcheon" for my ancestors, here is my answer:
I've always used the 'eon' spelling - for the whole time I've been doing genealogy - 30 years at this point. McCutcheon and McCutchen are the most often found spellings. I probably found the 'eon' name first and have continued to use it, especially since there was such variety in spellings. That made it consistent for me.

1850 census uses McCuchen and McCutchin at the same time
1830 Property tax list, and more than one item in Jeff's pension record - use McCutchin
