The Old Mind: What it can't do is remember everything that has ever happened.
I am trying to sort out which sideline family I should post next. I've quickly looked through the titles on 76 posts and two drafts to see what I've already said. Where I thought I had posted on a particular line, turns out I haven't. I guess I remember that I planned to, and not that I did or didn't. Someone turned over all the file cabinets in my mind.
I have a post on Eliza Berry and Dock Strosnider. I have done plenty of research on the Strosniders, but didn't include it in the previous page.
So, the Strosnider Family it is.
Merrie Pinick, who I refer to in the Eliza and Dock posting, is a Strosnider researcher. Long ago, on one Very Cold day in March, in Havensville, Kansas, we compared notes and I'm thankful for her collaboration.
I'd like to note here, too, that I am grateful for the government employees of West Virginia who have put birth, marriage, and death records online. I have more than one family in several West Virginia counties and it's wonderful to be able to look at the actual records, right here at home.

There are two men who are brothers: William A Strosnider and Israel N Strosnider. They are said to be the sons of John and Margaret Strosnider, but I haven't yet seen a good documentation of that relationship. If you have such, I would be glad to see it.

*Mrs
Elizabeth Strosnider departed this life on March 11, after an illness of several
weeks. Another of our early settlers has gone and the whole community mourns
with her loved ones. She was a good woman, a kind neighbor and friend. Her
early life was one of hardships incident to the early settling of our country.
She lived through it all and nobly did her part in life's work until she was
called to the eternal rest.
*Elizabeth
Knight was born near Sisterville, Ohio December 25, 1840, and died March 11th,
1917, age 76 years, 2 months and 14 days. She lived near the place of her birth
until grown to womanhood when she moved with her parents to Iowa. She was
united in marriage to Wm A Strosnider, October 14, 1863. To this union were
born ten children, only one surviving. All except three died in infancy.
-She
lived with her parents while her husband served in the Civil war, afterward
moving to Iowa. In 1872 they moved to
West Virginia and in 1876 went back to Iowa and in 1877 came to Kansas and in
1884 to the old homestead where she resided until her death.
-She
leaves to mourn their loss three sisters, Mrs Margaret Tuel, Mrs Oliva Meyers
and Mrs Nackey Briggs, all of Correctionville, Iowa; one son, Elymas, and two
grandsons, Alvin and Lester, besides a host of other relatives and friends.

Mr
Elymas Strosnider of Onaga and Miss Anna M Scott were united in marriage on Wednesday
evening about 5 o'clock at the residence of the minister of the Christian
church. Mr
Strosnider is a prosperous farmer some 6 or 7 miles south of Havensville. Miss
Scott is not a stranger to the people in and about town. The well wishes of
their many friends go with them as they embark together on life's voyage. A J C

Elymas Strosnider Dies Very Suddenly
Elymas Strosnider Dies Very Suddenly
This
community was greatly shocked by the death of Elmas Strosnider which occurred
at his home at 5:00 p.m. Monday. Elmas had been feeling as well as usual and
had saddled his pony and rode out in the pasture to get his team to plough a
few rows of potatoes out in the cool of the evening. By the time returned with
the team he was suffering with a severe pain in his chest and was bathed in a
profuse cold sweat. His wife insisted that he should go and see the doctor at
once. He replied "Oh I will soon be all right." She administered a little
first aid sponging off his face and chest and gave him a dry shirt to put on.
He felt some better but was still very restless. He sat on the porch a little
while and then stepped out to the car that was standing near the door and
let down the back lid. As he turned to walk back to the house he fell and died
instantly. The doctor who had been called said the cause of death was heart
disease. Along
with this sorrow came some good news. Mrs Strosnider received a letter from
Glenn's buddy stating that Glenn had been transferred to the 66th Regiment which
is to be returned to the States. The
funeral will be held at the Methodist church at 4:00 p.m. (today) Thursday and
burial in the St Clere cemetery.

Elmas
Strosnider was born near Havensville, November 18, 1878, and passed away July
16th at the age of 66 years, 3 months and 27 days. He
was the only surviving child of W A and Elizabeth Strosnider. He spent his entire
life in this community. He was married to Miss Myrtle Fairbanks in 1906. To
this union two sons were born, Alvin of Amazonia, Mo, and Lester who passed away
in 1933. His wife passed away august 1911.
On
April 23, 1919 he was married to Miss Anna Scott of St Clere, Kan. To this union
one son was born, Pfc Glenn U, who is now overseas with the armed forces. Elymas
was a member of the Methodist church and attended regularly as was possible. He
attended church last Sunday morning and Sunday school. He
was an honest sincere and law abiding citizen, a friendly neighbor and a devoted
husband and father.

Elymas
Strosnider was in Monday morning telling us about a fire in the St Clere neighborhood
Sunday about noon, when the barn belonging to Geo Perry, better known as
Wasatusa Perry, was burned. No stock or implements were burned but probably
some feed. About a year ago the barn on this farm was burned.

MANHATTAN - Glenn U Strosnider, 79, died Dec 28 at his home after an extended illness. He was born May 1, 1921, in Havensville, the son of Elymas and Anna Scott Strosnider. He was a 1939 graduate of Havensville High School. He married Cora Rose Aspley Aug 19, 1947, in Manhattan. She died Oct 1, 2000. A resident of Manhattan since 1945, he was a mail carrier for the U S Postal Service in Manhattan before retiring in 1976 and worked as a school crossing guard. Strosnider was a member of the Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Manhattan, a lecturer, a member of Holy Name Society and the Postal Carriers Association. He was a U S Army veteran of World War II, serving with the 36th division, 131st field artillery, Battery C in the European Theatre, receiving a Purple Heart. Survivors include two sons . . . ; two daughters . . . 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two half-brothers, Lester Strosnider and Alvin Strosnider . . . . Funeral was today at the church with the Rev Lawrence Grennan officiating. Burial with full military honors was at St Patrick's Catholic Cemetery in Elbow Community, east of Manhattan. . . . Parkview Funeral Home in Manhattan.
