I N Strosnider has made a purchase of 160
acres of land, formerly owned by Mr Sprague. The place is noted for its large
crop of Cockle burs but I N can knock the burs and make a good trustee at the
same time.

left this place last night to Chicago. M
S Knox went with eight loads, William and Owen Harries three and Hugh Rawlins,
John Davis and I N Strosnider with one load each. It is believed by many that yesterday's
shipment was the finest train load of cattle that ever went out of Havensville.
It represented about fifteen thousand dollars in cold cash. Can you fully
comprehend the benefit to the community this amount of money will be?

Onaga Herald, June 1, 1906: Found Dead in Bed
Last
Monday I N Strosnider, one of the old and respected citizens of Lincoln
township was found dead in his bed. His family called him for breakfast, but on
receiving no response to the summons, went into the room and found him dead. The funeral services were held Tuesday.

Israel
Niclon Strosnider was born in Wetzel County, West Virginia, March 21, 1840, and
died at his home south of Havensville, June 11, 1906, at the age of 66 years, 2
months and 20 days. He was married to Cathrine Riter, March 5, 1861, and to
this union was born nine children, of that number 6 are still living: Mrs G A Geyer, and Mrs E D Berry, who live in the
vicinity; John, who lives in Oklahoma; Wesley, Frank and Luther who are living
at home. After his marriage Mr
Strosnider enlisted in the Union army, Company K, 14th, Regiment, West Virginia
Volunteers, and after serving his country faithfully for three years, received
an honorable discharge. He
moved to Kansas in the year 1879 and to the place where he died in 1880. While not rich he had accumulated enough of
this world's goods to live comfortably, having good farm property well stocked
and was one of the directors of the First National Rank at this place. He was a
good neighbor and will be missed in the county.
Mr
Strosnider had been seriously affected with heart trouble for the past year or
so, and it was apparent to members of the family that the end might come at
anytime, although he was visiting at one of the neighbors Sunday and was in
fairly good health, but on arising Monday morning Mrs Strosnider found his
lifeless body on the floor at the foot of her bed. He was probably attempting
to call her when the summons came.
The
funeral services were held Tuesday forenoon conducted by the members of the
Havensville Post, and sermon by Rev Kuhn of the M E church. The burial was in
the Fairview cemetery.

Catherine Riter was born in the little
village of Strovensberg in Hessen, Darm Stradt, Germany, on April 10th, 1842.
She died August 24, 1938, aged 96 years, 4 months and 14 days.
The little village nestled at the foot of
a hill upon which stood the ruins of an ancient castle, under which shadow of
this evidence of former grandeur, Catherine spent her early girlhood. She received three years of schooling
here. Hearing of better wages and better working conditions in America, her
father, a stone cutter by trade, decided to seek this new field of opportunity,
and in the year 1851 they took passage on a French sailing vessel, where they
experienced many hardships. The ship was blown out of its course by storms, and
was continuously baffled by cross currents and contrary winds until supply of
drinking water was depleted to such an extent that it was doled out to the
passengers in such insufficient quantities as to cause actual suffering.
Catherine was nine years old at that time,
but the recollection off that voyage was so vividly impressed upon her child
mind that it continued to be a theme for reminiscence the remainder of her
life. She landed in America 61 days after the date of embarkment.
In America her father found immediate
employment as a stone mason on the B & O railway that was then being built
through West Virginia. It was here, after she could speak a few words of
English, that Catherine entered American schools, greatly to her embarrass-ment,
she said, as she referred to it in later years. The family then moved to a farm in Wetzel
county, West Virginia, and here amidst the foot hills of the Alleghenys,
Catherine grew to womanhood.
On March 5, 1861 she married Israel N
Strosnider. To this union were born nine children, three of them passing to the
Great Beyond while quite young. In 1879 she, with her husband and four children
moved to Kansas and located on a farm south of Havensville. It was on this farm
and in the vicinity where she spent the remainder of her life. Her long life
was dedicated to the welfare of her family and home. To this end she gave full
measure of devotion. Many trials and sorrows came to her those 96 years. From
her little log cabin in the mountains of West Va. She watched her husband
departing to serve 3 years in the rebellion, leaving her and baby daughter
behind. Again she witnessed the passing of her three children. Later, in 1906,
her soldier husband answered his last roll call. And in her old age she was
called on again to give up her oldest child, Ellen Geyer, also her son John.
She is survived by 3 sons and one daughter;
Mrs Florence Berry, Wesley, Frank and Luther, all of the vicinity. In addition
to this, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and aged sister, Mrs Anna
Cumbledge, of West Virginia.
She often expressed a desire to be called
home before age had enfeebled mind and body. Her wish was not granted, and she
died at the home of her daughter, Florence Berry, after many years of
feebleness.
Funeral services were conducted by Dr Thos
C Hinkle, at the Congregational church. Burial was at Fairview cemetery.

The brother and sister married a sister and a brother in the Berry Family, my mother-in-law's family.

Helen Strosnider was born in Wetzel
county, West Virginia, January 16, 1862. She was the oldest of a family of nine
children, four having preceded her in death. Her childhood, until the age of
16 was spent among the rugged hills and valleys of her birthplace. Responding
to the call of the west, she with her parents, two small brothers and a baby
sister bade farewell to the picturesque mountains of their Virginia home.
Moving westward to that new land of opportunity, they located near Onaga, Ks,
in the fall of 1879. She spent the remainder of her life in this vicinity. In
this new land she was instrumental in building a home and wrestling a living
from the virgin land.
On March 6, 1884, she was married to Adam
Geyer. To this union a daughter and two sons were born. The birth of her
children opened up a new field of endeavor. To develop them into good
industrious citizens, from then on, was her life work. To this cause she gave,
at all times, a full measure of devotion -- a devotion that only a good mother
can give. Her affection for her sister and brothers was always above question.
She rejoiced in time of their successes: was sympathetic in time of their
reverses. As a neighbor her unbounded hospitality was limited only by the
extent of her acquaintance. She made and held, all through her life, a host of
friends. She died at St Francis hospital Topeka, Kansas, October 5, 1928 at the
age of 66 years, 8 months and 19 days after an illness of less than two days.
She leaves to morn their loss a husband, a daughter and two sons. William and
Alice living at home and Fred at Emporia, Ks. She also leaves an aged mother,
one sister, and three brothers relatives and many friends.

Relatives here received work Tuesday that
John Strosnider had passed away Tuesday morning. Frank Strosnider left for Pawnee, Oklahoma,
that afternoon to attend the funeral. He
returned Friday.

In
the death of John Strosnider, which occurred early Tuesday morning, May 18,
1926, it is but the simple truth to state that a very large majority of the
people of Pawnee county feel the touch of a personal loss. For over a quarter
of a century he was an honored and honorable citizen of this county, enjoying
to the fullest extent the trust and esteem of those who knew him.
He was not a seeker after office, yet he
was called from the private life he preferred to serve his county in the
official positions of County Superintendent, and later two terms as County
Attorney. In each of these positions he gave the highest service a man can give
-- unquestioned fidelity to the trust imposed in him.
The outstanding characteristics of John
Strosnider were his unswerving honesty, locality to friends, kindliness and
cheerfulness. The latter trait was little short of marvelous in the face of the
physical suffering he endured nearly all of his lifetime in this country.
During all these years of pain he was never heard to complain, only questioning
the uselessness of a life prolonged under such circumstances. He went ahead
with his daily tasks with such strength as he had, maintaining his standard of
living -- clean personally, politically and morally, in public duty and private
thinking. Tender and loving to wife and daughter, he waited as patiently as was
humanly possible for his release, and at the break of day on Tuesday of this
week his eyes closed with a smile as his soul; strong and unafraid, went out to
meet the Dawn, and his tired and worn body was at rest.
Funeral services were conducted at the
Christian church yesterday afternoon by Revs Ingraham and Hornbaker. The large
auditorium was filled with people from all over the county, whose attendance
showed the affection in which he was held. After the services the body was
taken to Blackburn for burial.

Attack is Fatal for Frank Strosnider
Mr Frank Strosnider, 77, farmer of the
Pleasant Valley community north of Onaga, suffered a fatal heart attack
Saturday night, June 27, at his home. He had not been feeling well for some
months but had been up and around and had watched TV the night of his death. He
was preparing for bed when he suddenly became ill. A physician was called
immediately and Mr Strosnider was taken to Community Hospital. He died enroute.
Mr Strosnider was a life-long resident of
the Onaga vicinity, being born on a farm in the Fairview community. He attended
grade school at the old Grand View school and the Onaga High School. He was a
member of the Lone Mound Grange.
Survivors include his wife, Mary, of the
home; one brother, Luther, who is in a nursing home in St Marys, and several
nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June
30, at the Onaga Congregational Church, conducted by the Rev Milliard Marshall.
Burial was in Onaga cemetery.
Obituary:
Services for Frank Strosnider, 77, will be
at 2 pm Tuesday in the Congregational church at Onaga with burial in the
cemetery there. He died Saturday night at his home north of Onaga. He was born
Feb 23, 1882, near Onaga, and was a lifelong resident of that community. He is
survived by his wife, Mrs Mary Strosnider of the home. The Tessendorf funeral
home of Onaga is in charge of arrangements.

Frank Strosnider was born on a farm south
of Havensville, Kansas, February 23, 1882. He was the eighth child of a family
of nine children born to I N and Catherine Strosnider. All have preceded him in
death except Luther. Frank died of a
heart attack on June 27, 1959, on the farm near Onaga at the age of 77 years, 4
months and 4 days.
Frank spent his entire life in this county
and community. He was a fine husband, neighbor, friend and community worker. He
was a charter member and first master of Fairview Grange Post 1603. He served a
number of years as clerk on the Lincoln Township Board.
Frank is survived by his widow, Mary, his
brother, Luther, many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Nephews served
as pallbearers.
Funeral services were held at the
Congregational Church Tuesday, June 30. Burial was in Onaga Cemetery.

Onaga Herald, March 17, 1960, Luther Strosnider, 75, Dies Monday in Topeka
Mr Luther Strosnider, 75, of the Fairview
community passed away on Monday morning, March 14, in a Topeka hospital.
Mr Strosnider was a native of Pottawatomie
county, having been born on the farm which was his home until the time of his
death. He was a prominent farmer and also operated a rock quarry on Highway 63
south of Havensville.
Survivors include his wife, Zilda of the
home; two daughters, Mrs Pete Schilling of Mayetta, and Mrs William Palmer of
Nashville, Tennessee, and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the
Verschelden Funeral Home at St Marys, with burial in the Fairview cemetery,
depending on weather conditions.
